We’ve seen and heard reports that Panthers QB Cam Newton wasn’t a popular player during the 2012 Pro Bowl. Allegedly he was aloof and arrogant, and that didn’t take the honor of being selected to the Pro Bowl seriously.

The latest account comes from former 49ers long snapper Brian Jennings.

According to a SportingNews article, Newton goofed-around with headphones on all week and didn’t pay attention, so in the game, he didn’t know what to do, and ultimately — according to Jennings — was the reason the NFC lost the game to the AFC, costing the players on the NFC $25k each.

There’s more from Jennings in the article about Newton, but we’ll let you read it for yourself there.

Let’s just state the obvious: Newton has worked hard to fix his reputation over the last two years. Guys grow up a lot from their early to mid-20’s, especially guys like Newton who get humbled by losing regularly for the first time in their lives.

There should be a much more humble Cam Newton attending the Pro Bowl this year, that is, if he’s not playing the following week in New York.
