Projecting the Final 53

Looking at the current Panthers roster and trying to project the final 53 players. We’ll track this weekly to see how my projections shake out.

Light Blue = Locks
Yellow = Probable
Pink = Watch Out For / Outside Looking In

Offensive Line Still seems to be in flux. I’m still writing Oher down in pencil, as these preseason games will be monumental for him. Silatolu is still a question mark after his last couple of seasons have ended in injury. He’s lost his starting position to an undrafted rookie. At this point, there doesn’t seem to be anyone that’s going to push them off the roster, though. They may pick up a player later in the preseason that is currently on another roster that narrowly misses a cut.

The TE/FB Dynamic is interesting to watch. I’ve got them keeping Rotchie Brockel as the 3rd TE/2nd FB, but Lee Ward is a kid to watch. He could sneak onto this roster pretty easily, as I have Jordan Todman not making the cut, with Jonathan Stewart, Fozzy Whittaker and Cameron Artis-Payne as the RBs and Mike Tolbert as the FB/RB.

Wide Receiver will be interesting to see how the numbers shake out. Right now I’ve got 5 making it, with Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess, Corey Brown, Ted Ginn, Jr and Jericho Cotchery being the available targets for Cam Newton. That leaves Brenton Bersin and Damiere Byrd on the outside looking in. It’s possible they cut Cotchery loose and decide to keep one of the younger guys if either has a good preseason showing.

I don’t really have any surprises along the defensive side of the ball. Perhaps the biggest question mark is in the secondary, where I’ve got them keeping four Safeties (Tre Boston, Kurt Coleman, Roman Harper and Colin Jones) and six corners (Charles Tillman, Bene Benwikere, Teddy Williams, Josh Norman, Carrington Byndom and T.J. Heath). Robert Lester is the guy who loses his spot in line, unfortunately.
