The Panthers opened up the preseason with a 25-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Who shined and who faded?
+ Brandon Wegher | RB
Admittedly, I didn’t know much about Wegher going into camp. He had some trouble with the law early in his collegiate career, but has since turned his life around and is getting a shot in Panthers camp. Wegher took a short pass 42 yards to the end zone. It probably didn’t secure Wegher a roster spot, but he’s on the radar.
+ Rakim Cox | DE
Cox was the only defensive lineman to make a difference against the Bills, recording two tackles and one sack, but had good pressure on the QB. He’s got a chance to slip onto the roster if he continues to perform and others ahead of him on the depth chart continue to be unimpressive.
+/- Michael Oher | OT
Oher didn’t give up a sack against a good Bills defense. But the first team offensive line couldn’t open any holes for RB Fozzy Whittaker to run through. Going into the game, I was afraid that Oher was going to look terrible. I was surprised that he wasn’t shredded, but then again, he only played a handful of snaps.
– Kony Ealy | DE
I expected to see something out of Ealy, who really had a poor performance. Not only did Ealy not record a tackle, he didn’t apply any pressure to the QB and was unimpressive while in the game. Rivera has been disappointed with the competition opposite of Charles Johnson all throughout camp.
