Charlotte returns to Jerry Richardson Stadium for the program’s first-ever Conference USA home game as well as the first home night game in school history. The lights will be bright, Saturday night as the 49ers take on Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. in Conference USA action. (TV: ASN; Radio: Charlotte IMG). FAU is the first FBS level foe to visit Jerry Richardson Stadium.
Charlotte owns a 7-6 all-time record at home, including three straight wins … the 49ers are 1-0 at home this year (W, 34-10 vs. Presbyterian) … this is the first meeting between the two clubs … FAU is off to an 0-3 start with losses to Tulsa, Miami and Buffalo but they have produced more offense (480.7 yd/total offense) than their opponents (478.0) … RB Greg Howell averages 97.0 yards per game … the Owls went 3-9 last year, with a 2-6 record in C-USA … the Owls program was founded by Howard Schnellenberger and FAU has been to two bowl games (2007; 2008) … the 49ers are 1-3 all-time in night games.
The 49ers four-game win streak was snapped in a 73-14 loss at Middle Tennessee in the program’s first C-USA game … records were set for points allowed, yards allowed (695) and loss margin … in the last two games, rs-freshman DL Zach Duncan has 7 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and 2 forced fumbles … LB Nick Cook leads the 49ers with 21 tackles, including a 49ers season-high 13 at Middle Tennessee, which is 4th-most in school history … the 49ers defense has held opponents to 26% (11-of-42) on third down … Tank Norman (105) and Larry Ogunjobi (104) both cleared 100 career tackles this year, becoming the 2nd and 3rd 49ers to do so … a string of 12 straight games with a passing TD was snapped at Middle Tennessee … WR Austin Duke was sidelined after one series at MT … he had been limited in practice to start the week following the Presbyterian win … the 49ers were without OL Jamal Covington (toe) and had two offensive linemen (Nate Davis; Eugene German) make their first starts … it was the first time since the inaugural game in 2013 that two different linemen were making their first collegiate starts in the same game … QB Matt Johnson is 15-of-19 passing on third down, with 11 completions for first down.
