Checkers set roster for Training Camp

The Charlotte Checkers announced today it’s initial roster for the team’s training camp, which will begin this upcoming Tuesday at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail.

The group will include the first 14 players assigned from the Carolina Hurricanes, the Checkers NHL parent club, earlier today.  The players that were assigned to Charlotte were the following:

FORWARDS

  • Zach Boychuk
  • Patrick Brown
  • Kyle Hagel
  • T.J. Hensick
  • Erik Karlsson
  • Carter Sandlak
  • Justin Shugg

DEFENSEMEN

  • Danny Biega
  • Jake Chelios
  • Tyler Ganly
  • Keegan Lowe
  • Rasmus Rissanen

GOALTENDERS

  • Daniel Altshuller
  • Rasmus Tirronen

Of the following 14 players that are on the group, 9 of the players spent time with Charlotte last season, including Boychuk and Shugg, who rank second and fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list respectively.  The assignments of Boychuk, Shugg, Hensick, and Rissanen are pending clearance of NHL waivers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Joining players from Carolina are three players on AHL contracts with the Checkers, including forward Matt Willows, defenseman Justin Agosta, and goaltender Anthony Peters, and two players that received invites to Checkers camp on a tryout basis, and those players are forwards Ryan Rashid and David Wohlberg.

The training camp roster for the Carolina Hurricanes now stands at 33 players.
