Panthers elevate Bersin, waive Brandon Williams

Earlier in the week I wrote on Twitter that I thought WR Brenton Bersin would be elevated from the Practice Squad to the 53-man roster due to Jericho Cotchery’s high ankle sprain, but I wasn’t sure who would get the axe. Well, wonder no more:

Willams, affectionately called “Swole Bones” and “Big Swole” by Cam Newton, was one of the Tight Ends that had a ton of potential but was caught in a numbers game behind Olsen, Dickson and Brockel. Brockel missed most of last season with an angle injury that landed him on IR, and has missed the last several weeks with another nagging shoulder injury. The Panthers love his versatility and blocking ability, and apparently felt like they needed Bersin’s hands and availability more than they needed Wiliiams’ potential.
