The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they have added seven more players to it’s roster for training camp, which begins tomorrow morning at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail.
Six players joined the Checkers from its NHL parent club, the Carolina Hurricanes, which includes:
- Phil Di Giuseppe
- Brody Sutter
- Sergey Tolchinsky
- Brendan Woods
- Trevor Carrick
- Drew MacIntyre
Forward Jared Staal will join the Checkers on a tryout basis. The assignments of Sutter and MacIntyre are pending clearance of NHL waivers at noon on Tuesday afternoon.
Seven of the players have played for Charlotte in the past, with the exception of Tolchinsky, who is entering his first full professional campaign, spending a majority of it with the Checkers. Jared Staal, the younger brother of Hurricanes forwards Eric and Jordan Staal, appeared in 255 games with the Checkers dating back to it’s first AHL season in 2010-11, and during his time with Charlotte, he scored 17 goals and earned 17 assists(34 points) to go along with 97 penalty minutes. He is one of 5 players, joining Zach Boychuk, Michal Jordan, Rasmus Rissanen, and Chris Terry to play at least one game with the Checkers in all 5 seasons in the American Hockey League.
The first full Checkers training camp practice will take place at 11:15 a.m. tomorrow morning at Extreme Ice Center.
