Hurricanes to recall Rasmus Rissanen from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, the parent club of the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Rasmus Rissanen from Charlotte. He has already joined the team in Denver in advance of tomorrow night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche(10:00 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network).

In four games with the Checkers this season, Rissanen, 24, has earned 1 assist so far on the campaign with Charlotte. The Kuopio, Finland native made his NHL debut last season, appearing in 6 games with the Hurricanes and registering four penalty minutes.  On the AHL level with Charlotte, he earned a career high 11 points(1g, 10a) in 52 games played with the Checkers last season.

Selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round, 178th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Rissanen ranks sixth in the Checkers AHL history in games played(244), scoring 7 goals and earning 30 assists(37 points).

Carolina will continue its 7-game road trip tomorrow night in Denver as they face the Avalanche, while the Checkers resume their road trip on Wednesday night in Grand Rapids as they face the Grand Rapids Griffins.
