Knights release more details for 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game

The Charlotte Knights continued their preparations for the countdown to this year’s Triple-A All-Star Game by making several major announcements to tie in with the event, which will be held at BB&T Ballpark on July 13th, 2016.

The first major announcement was that Charlotte-based Sonic Automotive was selected to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s event, and at a news conference that took place at the ballpark earlier today, Knights Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski was very pleased and excited to see Sonic Automotive be chosen to be the title sponsor for the game. “We are very pleased to welcome Sonic Automotive as the title sponsor for this historic baseball game. The game will showcase the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and beautiful BB&T Ballpark to a national television audience on MLB Network.” Rajkowski said. “Our partnership with Sonic Automotive makes sense for the Knights as they are a big part of the Charlotte community. We know that this will be a great partnership.”

Also, the team announced several events to tie in with the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game, and for the Triple-A Home Run Derby on July 11th, it will feature recognizable celebrities from in and around the Charlotte area, with eight celebrities on hand serving as captain for the Triple-A baseball sluggers from the Pacific Coast and International Leagues in the Home Run Derby, and they will be signing autographs for the fans when the gates open at 6:00 p.m. that night, and a full list of details of the celebrities that will be taking part in the Home Run Derby will be released at a later date.  In addition, they unveiled the logo for the game, and the Knights talked more about their new partnership with Sonic Automotive, which will include branding throughout the ballpark and the All-Star game logo being featured on 1.2 million Pepsi cans throughout North Carolina starting in March.

On July 12th, the Triple-A All-Star Game workout day will happen at BB&T Ballpark, and admission is free and open to the public, with each of the team’s All-Stars signing autographs, and on July 13th at the Charlotte Convention Center, the Triple-A All-Star Luncheon will take place, featuring all the All-Stars and coaching staffs from the Pacific Coast League and International League.  One of the key components of the luncheon will be the resurrection of the Charlotte Baseball Hall of Fame, with the Knights inducting members beginning that afternoon, with additional members being inducted later in the season at BB&T Ballpark.

“From 1982 to 1985, inductees were announced and recognized. With 2016 being the 45th anniversary of the last championship for the Charlotte Baseball Hornets and the 40th anniversary of the first Charlotte O’s team(1976), we thought this was a time recognize the history of baseball in Charlotte.” Rajkowski said on the newly-rechristened Charlotte Baseball Roundtable of Honor. “It’s an exciting time to be a baseball fan in Charlotte.
