The Charlotte Hornets wrap up their 4-game road trip tonight in Philadelphia against the 76ers, as the Hornets look to reduce the magic number to clinch a playoff spot to 2, and possibly 1 by the end of the night. The Hornets have taken the first two games of the season series against the 76ers, with a 113-88 victory coming on November 20th at “The Hive”, and at Philadelphia on March 2nd, as Charlotte came away with a 119-99 result. Charlotte is coming off a bounce-back victory last Saturday night in Milwaukee, defeating the Bucks 115-91, in a game that saw 5 Hornets reach double figures in the Charlotte victory, as Nic Batum led the way with 25 points in the game.
Counting down to a playoff berth: After the Chicago Bulls loss at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks last night in Chicago, the Hornets magic number to clinch a playoff spot now stands at 3, meaning that any combination of CHA wins or CHI losses that equal up to 3 would give Charlotte it’s third playoff appearance in the last two seasons, and their 10th playoff trip overall in franchise history, but with a Hornets win and a Bulls loss tonight, it could probably get cut down to 1, and the earliest that they could lock up that playoff spot could come on Thursday, so Hornets fans may have to keep a close eye on not only tonight’s Hornets/76ers game, but a close eye on tonight’s Bulls/Pacers game at Indianapolis.
The road has starting to be very kind for Charlotte: Charlotte is starting to find their success on the road away from the confines of Time Warner Cable Arena, and since February 1st, the Hornets have posted an 8-1 mark, after going 7-17 from October 28th-January 31st, and their 72.7% win percentage on the road is the 4th best in the NBA since that time, with the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs posting better records over that time span.
March Madness hits Hornets: The month of March has been a solid one for Charlotte, already winning 12 games in the month, and with a win tonight, it could set the franchise record for wins in a month. In the 26-year history of Charlotte NBA basketball, the Hornets franchise won 12 games in a month on three other occasions in franchise history(12-4 in January of 2010, 12-3 in April 1999, and 12-3 in March 1998), and it was the first time that Charlotte has won 12 games in a single month since January of 2010 as part of their run to the 2010 NBA Playoffs.

Fact of the day: The Hornets still own the record for the biggest margin of victory in Charlotte NBA history with a 52-point win over the Sixers back on February 27, 1992 at the Charlotte Coliseum, as Charlotte defeated Philadelphia 136-84, as Anthony Frederick notched a double-double(20 points/10 rebounds) in the win for Charlotte.
