Minnesota Timberwolves(1-0 in preseason) vs. Charlotte Hornets(0-3 in preseason)
Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC
Game time: 7:00 p.m.
Radio: WFNZ 610 AM/102.5 FM/Hornets Radio Network
The Charlotte Hornets will take to the floor at Spectrum Center tonight as they welcome in the Minnesota Timberwolves in the fourth game of the preseason. Charlotte is coming off a 104-86 loss to the Boston Celtics on Saturday afternoon in Uncasville, Connecticut, dropping them to 0-3 on the preseason, while Minnesota enters this game 1-0 on the preseason slate, and that one win came on Saturday, as Minnesota defeated Miami 109-100. Here are three things to look for in tonight’s preseason match-up.
How MKG is starting to get his groove back
In the first three games of the preseason, all the attention has been focused on Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. After missing a good bulk of the early portion of the 2015-16 season, then coming back for a couple of games before missing the remainder of the season and the playoffs, MKG has been starting to get back into form this preseason for Charlotte, as he currently ranks third on the team this preseason averaging just 8.7 points per game, and many fans are hoping that a healthy MKG could be all the Hornets need if they want to pick up where they left off last season and go even further when the season starts in 2 weeks from now.
“Frank the Tank” playing more like a veteran
After a solid rookie campaign, Frank Kaminsky has been starting to play more like a veteran as he embarks on his second season in a Hornets uniform, and he is currently leading the team with a 11.0 points per game average this preseason. Look for him to have a strong out tonight off the bench for Charlotte, as “Frank the Tank” continues to get ready for what will be a strong sophomore year in the NBA this upcoming season.
Keeping an eye on Kemba
One of the storylines this preseason has been restricting guard Kemba Walker’s minutes in preseason play, as head coach Steve Clifford hopes that these preseason games will monitor how many minutes Walker needs to play so he can get into regular season form. In just 2 preseason games this season, Walker is only averaging 5.0 points per game, while playing only 11.7 minutes in the first three preseason games for Charlotte. Clifford hopes Walker can continue to build his preseason progress in time enough for him by choosing how many minutes he needs in the preseason to rest him well enough for the October 26th opener at Milwaukee.
Who’s out: Cody Zeller will not play in tonight’s preseason game(rest).
Who’s in: Nic Batum, Kemba Walker, and Marvin Williams will play in tonight’s game, per Steve Clifford.
