New-look Hurricanes ready to open season tonight in Winnipeg

After an off-season that saw a lot of changes, the Carolina Hurricanes are ready to drop the puck on it’s 19th season in North Carolina with a long road trip that begins tonight in Winnipeg, Manitoba against the Winnipeg Jets(8:00 P.M., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network), and for the Hurricanes third-year coach, Bill Peters, he has a lot of expectations entering the 2016-17 campaign for Carolina, as he would talk about what to expect in tonight’s season opener during his media scrum at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg earlier today.

On the changes Carolina made this off-season to make them better: “I think the big picture changes cause were deeper.” Peters said. Our organization is deeper, our NHL team is deeper, we’re deeper with more skill, and I think we’ll have more skill and we should be able to score more.”

On getting to play away from PNC Arena to begin the season with the State Fair taking place in Raleigh: “It’s fun actually to get on the road and spend some time together, and get to some great cities.”

The impact on some of the new guys coming to Carolina: “(Teuvo) Teravainen has skill, we all know that, (Sebastian)Aho is a good young player, I think you’ve seen the success of young players have had in the World Cup of Hockey and in the start of the NHL season, but he’s one of those types of guys, an important piece for us and makes our power play better.”

On finally getting things started after a good preseason: “I think they’re excited to get started. I think finally to be playing NHL games that matter and points in the standings are very important to acknowledge.” quoted Peters. “You’re giving them that opportunity, now everything’s earned, you get your role defined, and away you go.
