Canes assign McKeown to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, the parent club of the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers, announced today that the team has assigned defenseman Roland McKeown to Charlotte.  McKeown was a healthy extra in last night’s season-opening loss in Winnipeg and is expected to join the Checkers for their season-opening road trip, which starts tonight in Austin against the Texas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas.

McKeown, 20, saw some time with the Checkers during the 2014-15 season, appearing in just 4 games and earning just one assist.

The Checkers begin it’s seventh AHL season tonight on the road with a pair of games against the Texas Stars on Friday and Saturday night at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, while the next Carolina Hurricanes game will come on Sunday night against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC(10:00 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network).
