The Charlotte Knights today announced that they will open up the 2017 season on Thursday, April 6th 2017 at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides at BB&T Ballpark. The 2017 season will mark the team’s 30th year, and among the highlights of the 30th season of Charlotte Knights baseball will be 71 home games, including 14 post-game fireworks shows, the 12th annual Pink Knights game presented by Charlotte Radiology and Belk, three military appreciation games and many more. In addition, the club revealed a 30th anniversary logo to commemorate the team’s 30th year in Charlotte during the 2017 season(A franchise timeline is attached to this page).
On Friday, April 7th, BB&T Ballpark is expected to welcome its 2-millionth fan in the ballpark’s short 4 year history. Since it opened in 2014, it has welcomed 1,985,286 fans through its gates, making it the most-visited venue in all of minor-league baseball and the 5th best MiLB Ballpark Experience in 2016 by StadiumJourney.com.
Last season, all of the Knights Saturday night games started at 6:05 p.m., and next season, they are moving it back to the usual 7:05 p.m. start time, and new for the 2017 season, the majority of the Sunday home games at BB&T Ballpark will start at 5:05 p.m. or later, including the May 28th game at 7:05 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, which will feature a Memorial Day fireworks show, while the final weekend of the 2017 season will include the 14th and final fireworks show of the year coming on September 3rd at 7:05 p.m. against Norfolk. Last week, the Knights already announced that USA Baseball will face off against Cuba on July 4th at 6:05 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark for the annual WBT SkyShow game.
In all, the Knights will have a full slate of prime home dates, including 11 Friday games, 11 Saturday games, and 11 Sunday games, and of course, some of the returning fan favorites including Thirsty Thursdays, Friday Night Fireworks presented by BB&T, 107.9 The Link and News 1110/99.3 WBT, and Sunbelt Sundays presented by Sunbelt Rentals. 35 of the 38 games will be on a weekday evening will start a 7:05 p.m., with the team’s annual Education Day game on May 3rd will feature a start time of 11:05 a.m., and the Memorial Day game on May 28th will have a 2:05 p.m. first pitch.
Another announcement that the Knights made today was that partial plans for the 2017 season are now on sale. Each partial plan will feature a preferred field box seat location, discounts off regular ticket pricing, online ticket account management and much more. This season, the ticket plans will be branded with the name of the ever popular NTB National Tire and Battery Royalty Racers, including Good Knights Charlie, Jerry the Jester, King Meck, and Queen Charlotte. Each plan starts at $297 per seat, with the Jerry the Jester plan consisting of 12 fixed games and allows fans to purchase an additional six games of their choosing. A limited number of seats in the Club 93 area are also available, with packages starting a $360 per seat and includes access to the club lounges at BB&T Ballpark.
