Scouting the Hornets

Saturday night turned out to be a heartbreaking night for the Charlotte Hornets in their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home, as they would be on the losing end of the scoreboard after Minnesota’s strong comeback in the second half before finishing off the Hornets in overtime to come away with a 125-120 win on Saturday night in Charlotte.  Head Coach Steve Clifford and his team hopes that they can put Saturday’s loss behind them and to get back in the win column tonight, as the Hornets pay a visit to Dallas to face a struggling Mavericks team that they saw back on Thursday night on their home floor and coming away with a 97-87 win, and with a win tonight in Dallas, it would give the Hornets a regular-season sweep of the Mavericks for the first time since the 1997-98 season.

Scouting the Mavericks

Things have gotten off to a rocky start in “Big D” for the Mavericks, as they find themselves in last place in not only the Western Conference, but in the Southwest Division as well.  The Mavericks are coming off a win back on Saturday night at home as they defeated the Chicago Bulls 107-82, and despite their losing mark, Dallas has been getting some good play from former North Carolina star Harrison Barnes, who leads the team with a 20.4 points per game average this season.  The Mavs are out for some revenge tonight, as they welcome in the Southeast Division-leading Charlotte Hornets to town for the second and final time this season.

ON THIS DATE IN HORNETS HISTORY: Derrick Coleman’s game-high 26 points go to along with 11 rebounds would be the difference for Charlotte, as they would defeat the Seattle SuperSonics 103-81 on the road at KeyArena in Seattle for its third straight win, which contributed to an 8-game win-streak during the 1999-2000 season for the Hornets.

FACT OF THE DAY: With a win over the Mavericks tonight in Dallas, it would give the Charlotte Hornets its first sweep of the Mavericks since the 1997-98 season.  The two previous times that the Charlotte franchise would sweep the regular-season series from Dallas were back in the 1992-93 and 1995-96 seasons.
