The Charlotte Knights today announced it’s promotional schedule for the team’s 30th anniversary season this year, and it will all begin with Opening Knight on April 6th at BB&T Ballpark, when the Knights will take on the Norfolk Tides. Beginning with the home opener, the team’s wildly-popular Thirsty Thursdays will return, featuring $3 domestic drafts and $1 small sodas presented by Ink N Ivy, and a number of the team’s Knightly Promotions will return this season, including the always popluar Friday Night Fireworks presented by BB&T, 107.9 The Link, and News 1110/99.3 WBT, and Sunbelt Sundays presented by Sunbelt Rentals, with Kids Run the Bases after every Sunday home game, while the Knights will light up the Charlotte skyline with 15 fireworks shows this season.
Earlier this month, the Knights unveiled their “All-American Mondays” lineup for the 2017 season, with three “Bark in the Park” nights on May 15th, June 26th, and August 28th, three $1 hot dog nights presented by Sahlen’s on May 29th, June 5th, and July 24th), and the Knights will wear their All-American uniforms for the games on May 29th, July 3rd, and September 4th.
Along with the 30th season of Charlotte Knights baseball, this season will also mark the 125th anniversary of professional baseball in Charlotte, which dates back to 1892, and for all 10 Tuesday home games this season, the Knights will have “Turnback Tuesdays” to honor the history of Charlotte baseball, with a theme night dedicated to Charlotte’s baseball heritage. The first “Turnback Tuesday” game will be on April 18th versus the Pawtucket Red Sox, as the Knights will host a Negro League Tribute Night, featuring seven Negro League legends, and the Knights will wear jerseys featuring the number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson, who broke baseball’s color barrier 70 years ago this season, and for the remaining nine games, the Knights will don their retro 1990 jerseys, similar to the ones the team wore during the first season of the since-demolished Knights Stadium in Fort Mill and during the 2013 season, when the Knights played its final year at “The Castle”.
Just like in previous years, the Knights will once again welcome baseball and sports legends to BB&T Ballpark this season, with Luis Tiant kicking off the Knights “Celeb Series” on April 18th, and for the game on May 16th vs. Durham, Tony Oliva, who spent the 1962 season as a member of the Charlotte Baseball Hornets, will make an appearance. Other celebrity appearances this season will include Brian Jordan(June 14th vs. Louisville), Bucky Dent(June 28th vs. Columbus), and two-time World Series champion and 1991 World Series MVP Jack Morris will visit BB&T Ballpark on August 16th vs. Toledo for “Mustache Bash 2017” presented by Shear Excellence.
On June 7th, WWE legend Jerry “The King” Lawler will make an appearance for “Royalty Night”, the Long Haul Bombers will once again return to BB&T Ballpark on July 30th for “Salute to Softball Night”, and September 2nd, the newest members of the WWE Hall of Fame, the Rock N’ Roll Express, will headline the second annual Crockett Foundation night.
This year’s gate giveaways will include the following:
- A wiffle bat and ball to the first 2,000 kids on April 23rd from Harris Teeter and Kellogg’s.
- Homer the Dragon Jedi Knights bobblehead courtesy of BB&T for the first 3,000 fans on May 4th for “Star Wars Knight”.
- Pink Baseball for the 12th annual Pink Knights game to the first 2,000 ladies from Charlotte Radiology and Belk on May 6th.
- 125th Anniversary of Charlotte baseball poster to the first 2,000 fans on June 6th.
- Crockett Park replica giveaway presented by BB&T to first 2,500 fans on June 27th
- 1988 Knights retro youth jersey to first 1,500 kids on July 25th presented by Carolinas Healthcare System.
Additional theme night for the 2017 season will include:
- “Salute to the Queen City Night” on June 17th
- Carolina BBQ Battle Royale Night on July 15th
Single-game tickets for the 2017 season, including the July 4th WBT Skyshow game featuring Team USA vs. the Cuban Baseball Federation, will go on sale this Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the BB&T Ballpark box office, and at 12:00 p.m., tickets will go on sale online at CharlotteKnights.com and by phone at 704-274-8282.
