The International League announced its roster for the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game, which will be held in Tacoma, Washington this year, and among them is Charlotte Knights second baseman Yoan Moncada.
Ranked the number one prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization, and in Major League Baseball overall, Moncada has been the star of the show for the Knights this season, putting together a .280 batting average, to go along with 10 home runs, 29 RBI’s, and 15 stolen bases in 65 games with Charlotte this season.
Earlier in the year, Moncada was named the White Sox Minor League Player of the Month, after hitting .374(27-for-86), with 16 runs, clubbing 4 home runs, driving in 7 RBI’s and swiping six bases in 21 games, and he was also named the International League’s Batter of the Week for the week ending May 8th after putting together a .500 AVG(11-for-22), while hitting two home runs, scoring eight runs, and driving in 4 RBI’s from May 1-7.
Last season, while he was a member of the Boston Red Sox organization, Moncada was named to the South Atlantic League’s post-season All-Star team with the Greenville Drive, and he also received mid-season and post-season All-Star honors from the Carolina League with Boston’s Class-A advanced affiliate, the Salem Red Sox.
In addition to being named to the International League All-Star team, Moncada was also named to the 2017 Futures Game as part of this year’s MLB All-Star Weekend festivities in Miami, Florida. He was named the Most Valuable Player in last year’s Futures Game, which was held in San Diego, California, back on July 10, 2016.
