Knights to become Charlotte Caballeros in August series

From August 18-20, the Charlotte Knights will become the Charlotte Caballeros for their series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, as part of Minor League Baseball’s(MiLB) new initiative “Es Divertido Ser Un Fan”, a new multi-cultural engagement platform which was launched earlier today.

“We are very excited to introduce the Charlotte Caballeros. Fans will notice the Caballeros name and associated themes integrated in their BB&T Ballpark experience and in the community.” said Rob Egan, general manager of the Charlotte Knights at a news conference held earlier today at BB&T Ballpark.  On August 18th, the Knights will don the Caballeros uniforms for the first time against the IronPigs at 7:05 p.m., which will also feature post-game fireworks presented by BB&T and News 1110/99.3 WBT. Both teams will also meet again on August 19th at 7:05, before wrapping up the series on August 20th at 5:05 p.m., which will also be Faith and Family Night presented by Montreat College.  The weekend will also feature a unique number of concession items, a festival on the plaza, and much more.

Egan also added that there will be public address announcements in Spanish, player features on the video board and a festival with live music during the introductory weekend of August 18-20, while strengthening their bonds with the Latin American Chamber of Commerce Charlotte(LACCC), and the Puerto Rican Cultural Society of Charlotte(PRCSC), and raising funds for Circle de Luz, which is a group to empower Hispanic girls and young women through mentoring, programming, and educational scholarships.

This season, the Knights have partnered with Latina 102.3 to broadcast all Sunday home games in Spanish with Rafael Bastidas and Ernesto Hurtado calling the games, with four more slated to air on July 30th, August 6, August 20th(Caballeros weekend), and September 3rd.

All Charlotte Caballeros merchandise will be available for pre-order starting today at the Knights Armor Shoppe at BB&T Ballpark and online at, with all Caballeros merchandise arriving in August.  New Era fitted hats are available online for pre-order right now, and cost $28, while t-shirts with the Caballeros logo are just $20 for pre-order online, while the specialty Caballeros jerseys will be available through an online auction on August 20th, with all proceeds benefiting Circle de Luz.
